Get detailed Marriage License requirements - Our database covers the entire U.S. and it's more than 3,200 counties. You will have the option to create a
custom, printable, Marriage Application online for free! To get started, select your state below.
Every state requires a license to legalize a marriage. Obtaining a marriage license is the responsibility of the bride and groom. In most cases, both parties about to marry need
to sign the application in person. You cannot get married without the Marriage License. Following the ceremony, both spouses and the Officiant sign the marriage license and some states require the signature of a witness. The Officiant then files for
a certified copy of the marriage license and a marriage certificate (the marriage certificate is more of a keepsake.) You will receive an original of both the certified license and the marriage certificate. Depending on the state, this
can take up to a month.
To start, select your state from the "Select Your State" menu above.
